Long recognized as major contributors to environmental/outdoor causes, Chaco, in conjunction with ClimbingGear.com, will provide unique Custom Performance Sandals for competitors to purchase at the 2006 Triple Crown Bouldering Series to help raise funds to secure access to one of the prime bouldering areas in the Southeast. In 2005, a similar effort from Chaco, ClimbingGear, RockCreek, and The Triple Crown raised over $4,000 toward the purchase of Laurel Knob— a 1,200ft granite dome in Cashiers Valley located in the Highlands of North Carolina. Once threatened by development, Laurel Knob, renowned as the tallest crag east of the Mississippi River, is now owned by the Carolina Climbers’ Coalition and is open to hiking and rock climbing.

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the 2006 Custom Chaco Sandals will go toward helping the Southeastern Climbers’ Coalition with gaining permanent access and ownership of Boat Rock; a unique granite boulder field/woodland located inside the metro of Atlanta, Georgia. This area has long been threatened by development, but with a strong effort from The SCC and local citizens, the area is now a community park and green space. Currently, $12,000 remains to be paid on the mortgage, and many people are working to make the final payments against the note.

The Custom Chaco Sandals will be available for purchase thru the ClimbingGear.com website and displayed at each venue of the Triple Crown Bouldering Series (see www.triplecrownbouldering.org for event details). For every pair of sandals sold, ClimbingGear and Chaco will donate $20 toward the purchase of Boat Rock. Please help us secure access to this wonderful outdoor resource, and at the same time, put a brand new pair of Custom Chaco Sandals on your feet!

Triple Crown and The Southeastern Climbers’ Coalition want to take the opportunity to say a huge thank-you to Chaco and ClimbingGear.com. These guys have quietly gone about the business of gaining and maintaining access to outdoor recreation areas for years. Chaco, with help from regional outdoor retailers, will once again, put close to $20,000 into direct action causes in 2006 here in the Southeast alone; special thanks to Chaco for supporting access to the many outdoor resources here in the southeast and throughout the United States.
